Take the 31 Days of Gratitude Journaling Challenge! 6

DECEMBER 1, 2016 marks the start of WritingThroughLife’s  5th annual 31 Days of Gratitude Challenge. The purpose of this challenge is to extend the goodwill and gratitude of the Thanksgiving into a season-long and, hopefully, lifelong habit of gratitude journaling.

Gratitude journaling is quick and easy to do and provides a number of proven benefits, including:

  • Reducing stress levels
  • Raising energy levels
  • Helping to gain perspective and focus on what really matters to you
  • Gaining clarity
  • Improving decision-making based on positive priorities
  • Becoming more self-aware
  • Creating feelings of happiness
  • Encouraging kindness and empathy
  • Increasing your productivity
  • Improving your self esteem
  • Worrying Less
  • Sleeping better
  • Improving immune system and overall health

With all these wonderful benefits, what’s not like about keeping a gratitude journal?

The Challenge

Pause at least once each day, from December 1 – 31, and acknowledge — in writing — the things and people in your life for which you are grateful.

It’s helpful to set a reminder on your phone or calendar for the same time each day. I like to journal in the morning, right after I wake up, but you may find that evenings just before bed work best for you. It’s also handy to keep a small notebook in your purse or pocket to write down thoughts of gratitude as they occur throughout the day. This practice will help you increase your gratitude awareness.

As you think about what you’re grateful for, consider these questions:

  • What nourishes you?
  • What (and who) would it be difficult to do without?
  • What little things bring moments of pleasure?
  • What positive event(s) occurred today (or yesterday, if you’re writing early in the morning)?

Your journal is always a private and safe place to write whatever you want, and no one will judge you for what you find to be grateful for. Still, we all like to share our writing from time to time, so I invite you to share your daily gratitude statements each day on the WritingThroughLife Facebook page. Every day, I’ll post a gratitude statement of my own. When you comment and add your statement(s) to mine, we expand the gratitude energy.

What are you grateful for today?

Join me on Facebook and let’s be grateful together.
